How to make a DIY train with dc motor

Who loves trains? Remember the train toys that come with the track and the train moves round-and-round on the track? Those train toys are very entertaining when we are at the age of 3 to 5.
What then? How about building your own DIY train that actually moves? Yes, we can make an easy DIY toy train model using DC motor, cardboard, paper crafts and Havi Elements. Not only that, what if we provide you print-ready templates? Yes, make the train craft using downloadable templates, and power it up with dc motor and Havi elements.
In this blog post, you will get the step-by-step instructions of making a diy toy train model. So all aboard let’s get on track!

Making of Train
Step 1
Download the printable train making templates, print it on A4 sized paper and cut as directed in the image.

Take the first template. Cut and fold as directed in the image.

Stick the cut squares at corners inwards using glue to form a box, which shapes the lower part of the engine.

Step 3
Take the second template and repeat the same process to make the train car.

Step 4
Fold the third template as directed and stick it to make a box.

Cut the corners of the small square piece from templates as directed and stick it on the box. The train cabin is ready.

Step 5
Stick the rectangular template to form a cylinder and stick the small circle templates on its ends.

Step 6
Assemble and stick all the parts together as directed in the image to complete the train engine.

Step 7
Take the wheel template, trace it on a cardboard sheet and cut it. Repeat this process 16 times to get 16 wheels.

Cut the wheel’s circular templates, stick it on cardboard wheel. Mark the cuts with the cutter to make a center hole in wheel.

Take two pieces of wheels and stick them together with DST to make 8 pairs of wheels.

Step 9
Now, for the rear wheels in the engine we use the motor.
Take the geared motor and fit the wheel grips on both the shafts and stick the motor on the engine using DST. Pull the motor wire through the cross in the engine.
Using hot glue, stick small pieces of straw on both shafts and stick the wheel on either straw.

For other two wheels, stick a straw in one wheel using hot glue and put in front side of the engine and stick a second wheel on other side of the straw

Step 10
Repeat the same process for the train car.

Step 11
Snap the elements to make the circuit: Power + Motor. Connect the power element with the power bank using DST.
Step 12
Place the circuit in the train car and pull the cable through the cross in the train car to connect it to the engine.

Step 13
Stick the wire to the power bank using DST at a desired length.
Your train is ready. Turn the power ON.

How does it work?
When you switch on the power element, the power bank passes the stored current to the power element. Subsequently, the power element provides the necessary current to the attached geared motor which makes the wheels rotate. With this rotation, the train starts to move.
